Andrew LaMoreaux

About: Biography

American photographer, Andrew LaMoreaux's, early work focused on documenting the art, architecture and cultural traditions of Asia, Central America, and North America. These projects, in which he used a largely ethnographic approach, included documenting Buddhist monasteries and temples in Bhutan, recording religious festivals in Nepal and India, and chronicling the fast-changing lives of the Gnabe tribe in Panama (see Another Place galleries).

In his latest work, LaMoreaux turned his attention to urban, cosmopolitan subjects in Sydney, Australia. In an effort to understand what makes the city one of the most multicultural in the world, LaMoreaux documented intercultural couples within the privacy of their homes. The portraits are closely observed, intimate, and informative. They capture and convey a distinctive sense of place and time (see Fusion gallery).
